WATCH: KC, Toronto mayors put up local BBQ, beer for pre-ALCS bet

With the ALCS kicking off on Friday night when the Kansas City Royals host the Toronto Blue Jays in Game 1 of what promises to be an eventful series, it was time for one of baseball's time-honored traditions to take place: the mayoral wager.

Mayor Sly James of Kansas City, Missouri, and Toronto mayor John Tory made their respective bets on behalf of the Royals and the Blue Jays.

At stake for James and the Royals is a fine selection of hand-picked BBQ ribs, of course a calling card of the Kansas City area. Here's James' video challenging Tory to a bet (video via Kansas City, Mo. City Communications):

As for Tory's response, he offered up three different kinds of craft beer brewed in Toronto so, Tory puts it, James and the citizens of Kansas City can "for the first time in their lives, drink some real beer." That's quite a statement (video via Global News):

At the end of the clip, Tory attempted a bat-flip in honor of Jays slugger Jose Bautista, but ... it didn't go especially well. This mayor-to-mayor challenge comes after an amusing fan-made 'rap battle' video meant to ramp up anticipation for the series popped up online, too.

Will John Tory and Toronto receive some fine K.C. barbeque, or will Sly James and Kansas City taste Canadian beer? All will be decided in about a week or so.
