Valbuena, Astros on quite a home run tear

Published May. 18, 2015 3:28 a.m. ET

Third baseman Luis Valbuena just may be shaping up as one of the best off-season signings of any team in the league, and the Houston Astros are reaping the benefits.

Valbuena swatted his tenth home run of the campaign on Sunday, and reached some exclusive company in franchise history in doing so.

As Jose de Jesus Ortiz of the Houston Chronicle pointed out, Valbuena and Morgan Ensberg are the only two third basemen in Astros history to have hit ten or more home runs in their first 38 games of a season (Ensberg had 11).

Oh, and with those two homers on Sunday (the other coming from Colby Rasmus), the Astros ended the night with the most team home runs in the league (they have 57 and the Los Angeles Dodgers have 54). They've also hit 11 over the course of their current five-game winning streak.

If you needed some more context as to why Houston's off to such a strong start, let their penchant for power suffice.
