Twins reinstate Span

Published Aug. 1, 2011 6:52 a.m. ET

The Minnesota Twins activated outfielder Denard Span from the 15-day disabled list following Sunday's 7-3 loss to the Oakland Athletics.

Span, the subject of several trade deadline rumors, will join the Twins when they travel to Anaheim to open a series against the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday.

Span, on the disabled list since June 9 because of a concussion, has appeared in 56 games with the Twins, batting .294 with nine doubles, three triples, two home runs and 15 RBIs.

To make room for Span on the 25-man roster, the Twins have optioned infielder Luke Hughes to Triple-A Rochester.
