Twins' Hardy scratched with migraine

Published Sep. 22, 2010 12:41 a.m. ET

The Minnesota Twins have scratched shortstop J.J. Hardy from the game against Cleveland on Tuesday night because of a migraine headache.

Hardy was penciled into the lineup and took batting practice on Tuesday evening, but the team announced about 40 minutes before the scheduled start that he would not be in the lineup.

After struggling with injuries and inconsistency at the plate early in the season, Hardy has emerged as a steady threat at the bottom of the order in the last month. He had three hits in a victory over the Indians on Monday night to raise his average to .274 with six homers and 38 RBIs.

Nick Punto replaced Hardy at shortstop.
