Three injured Washington Nationals players nearing return
Today’s District Daily has updates on three injured players and more on Ryan Zimmerman being the Washington Nationals’ nominee for this year’s Roberto Clemente Award.
Good morning DoD readers, and welcome to today’s District Daily. Get caught up on the latest Nats news and opinions with some great Washington Nationals articles from around the web below.
In today’s Daily, MLB.com’s Alex Putterman has an update on three Nationals players who are currently on the disabled list. As Putterman writes in his article below, Joe Ross, Stephen Drew and Sammy Solis are progressing from their injuries and could be nearing a return to the big league club.
More from District on Deck
Ross has been on the disabled list since July 3 with right shoulder inflamation, while Drew has been out for six weeks with recurring dizziness caused by an inner-ear issue. Solis has been on the disabled list since mid-August with left shoulder inflamation.
As Putterman writes, expanded rosters this month should help the Nationals overcome the absence of Ross, Drew and Solis over the next few weeks. But all three players are important to the team and could be in the mix for spots on the postseason roster, so the Nationals need them to be healthy and productive sooner rather than later.
Also in today’s Daily, MLB.com’s Mark Newman discusses the nominees for this year’s Roberto Clemente Award, which honors players for their philanthropic efforts in memory of the late and great Roberto Clemente. As Newman writes, the Nationals’ nominee this year is first baseman Ryan Zimmerman.
Be sure to check out both articles below, they’re definitely worth a read. And as always, stay tuned to DoD for all your Washington Nationals needs.
Ross, Drew, Solis progressing toward returns
WASHINGTON — With the postseason less than a month away, the Nationals are inching toward full health.
Not only is Stephen Strasburg possibly set to pitch Wednesday, but pitchers Joe Ross and Sammy Solis and infielder Stephen Drew are all also progressing toward returns.
Ross, who has been out since July 3 with right shoulder inflammation, threw three innings for Triple-A Syracuse on Monday, allowing three hits and one run while striking out two. He threw 42 pitches and will likely require one more rehab outing before returning to the Majors. Read full article here.
Vote on social media for Roberto Clemente Award
Roberto Clemente won the National League Most Valuable Player Award 50 years ago, he finished his career with 3,000 hits, led Pittsburgh to a pair of World Series titles, earned 15 All-Star selections and was one of the best right fielders in the game’s history.
But as another Pirates outfielder, Andrew McCutchen, said in accepting the Roberto Clemente Award last fall, “You never hear a story about how he played the game. You always hear about how great of a person he is. I feel like what was most important to Clemente was helping others. … That’s how you want to be remembered.” Read full article here.
