Theo turns down Red Sox's invitation

Chicago Cubs president of baseball operations Theo Epstein has declined to attend the Red Sox's 100th anniversary of Fenway Park celebration on Friday, after his former employer left him off the original invite list.

Epstein, who was involved in building two championship teams in Boston before moving to Chicago last year, finally received an invitation to the pre-game commemoration of the legendary ballpark on Thursday -- but told the Chicago Tribune he had already made other plans.

Red Sox owner John Henry had earlier told CSNNE.com that only uniformed personnel had been invited to the event.

"I hope tomorrow is a great day for the Red Sox fans and the whole organization," Epstein said in an email to the Tribune.

"I have plans to be at the Cubs game [Friday] but I will take a moment to toast Fenway along with everyone else who loves the ballpark."
