The many faces of Suspended A-Rod

Published Aug. 5, 2013 1:00 a.m. ET

Alex Rodriguez is no stranger to excellent photos (see here, here and here). And he didn't disappoint Monday. Ole A-Rod put on an absolute facial expression clinic during his pre-game press conference, his first comments since being suspended through 2014.

Here are some of the best snapshots — and it's a pretty impressive array for a 10-minute press conference — along with a quote from him that more or less sums up the photo. Which one is your favorite?

"The last seven months have been a nightmare. Probably the worst time of my life, for sure."

No. 2: The deer in headlights

"By any means, am I out of the woods? This is probably just phase two just starting. It's not going to get easier. It's probably going to get harder."

No. 3: The hope on the horizon

(Jonathan Daniel/Getty Images)

"What we've always fought for is the process and I think we have that and I think at some point we'll sit in front of an arbiter and we'll give our case."

No. 4: The staring contest

(Jonathan Daniel/Getty Images)

"I'm not going to get into that today."

No. 5: The fatigue

(Jonathan Daniel/Getty Images)

"(It's been hard) dealing with the circumstances at hand. And also dealing with a very tough surgery. And a rehab program. And being 38."

No. 6: The sad reflection

(Jonathan Daniel/Getty Images)

"I'm a human being. ... I'm fighting for my life. I have to defend myself. If I don't defend myself, no one else will."

No. 7: The thinker

(Jerry Lai/USA Today Sports Images)

"I gotta tell you, I haven't thought that far ahead, but I'm so excited to have an opportunity to wear this uniform and help this team win."
