The Atlanta Braves’ 2016 season is over, but they’re still making news in October. On Tuesday morning, the team announced that Brian Snitker is their new full-time manager.

Snitker took over for Fredi Gonzalez on an interim basis on May 17, inheriting a rebuilding team that was 9-28.

However, the Braves showed dramatic improvement under Snitker, going 59-65 overall and 16-10 in September/October. In fact, Atlanta won 12 of its final 14 games. In the process, Snitker won over the players, fans and the front office in the process. And he’ll be in the dugout as the Braves make the move to SunTrust Park in 2017 -- his 41st year with the Braves organization.

Braves GM John Coppolella released this statement:

“Brian earned this opportunity through his dedication to the Braves and to our players. We are excited for the energy and momentum he will bring into SunTrust Park next season.”

Snitker, who will turn 61 next week, was one of the three finalists for the job, along with Bud Black and Ron Washington. The team also announced Tuesday that Washington will serve as the third-base coach.
