Teixeira out of Yankees' lineup, sent for scan on foot
NEW YORK (AP) Mark Teixeira is out of the New York Yankees' lineup because of a sore left foot.
Rob Refsnyder is set to start in Teixeira's place at first base and bat eighth Sunday night against Boston left-hander David Price.
Teixeira fouled a ball off his foot in the fourth inning of Saturday's loss to the Red Sox. He winced in pain and hobbled around as a trainer came out to check him, but finished the game. X-rays were negative, and the slumping switch-hitter was sent for a CT scan Sunday.
The oft-injured Teixeira, 36, was batting .186 with seven home runs and 20 RBIs in 63 games during the final season of a $180 million, eight-year contract. He spent time on the disabled list last month with torn cartilage in his right knee.
Teixeira fouled a ball off his right shin last Aug. 17, essentially ending his productive 2015 season. He appeared in two more games before tests in September revealed a fracture.
