Source: Yankees sign RHP Garcia to deal

The Yankees continued to add rotation depth Monday, signing free-agent right-hander Freddy Garcia to a minor-league contract, according to a major-league source.

Garcia will join a similar free agent, righty Bartolo Colon, when pitchers and catchers report to the team's spring complex in Tampa in mid-February.

The Yankees still are waiting to hear whether free-agent lefty Andy Pettitte wants to pitch for them again. But even if Pettitte returns, Garcia or Colon could play a role at some point during the season.

Right now the Yankees' fourth and fifth starters are righties Ivan Nova and Sergio Mitre.

Garcia, 35, went 12-6 with a 4.64 ERA in 28 starts for the White Sox last season. He worked only 157 innings.
