Segura leads Brewers to 12-0 win over Diamondbacks
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) Jean Segura had three hits and three RBIs, and the Milwaukee Brewers scored seven times in the fifth inning on their way to a 12-0 rout Tuesday night over the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Scooter Gennett had two hits and two RBIs, while Adam Lind and Elian Herrera each added two hits and an RBI. All good signs for Milwaukee's lineup.
''The last week we've been pretty good,'' manager Ron Roenicke said. ''Hopefully that continues, but you know, offense is down in baseball and it's because the pitching is so good. When you get it, you just enjoy it and hope it lasts a long time.''
Michael Blazek pitched four impressive innings, striking out four and walking two in his first start of the spring. He'd been used in relief in his four previous outings.
''Good fastball location, great breaking ball. He's really throwing the ball well,'' Roenicke said.
Diamondbacks starter Yoan Lopez allowed the first five runs on five hits in three innings. But reliever A.J. Schugel was roughed up for five runs on four hits and two walks in his lone inning of work.
Milwaukee had 13 hits to four for the Diamondbacks. Ender Inciarte's double was one of those, and the Arizona outfielder is batting .419 this spring.
''Our at-bats were not very good,'' manager Chip Hale said. ''Some of the credit has to go to their pitching. There wasn't a whole lot to show.''
STARTING TIME
Brewers: Blazek, trying to stay in contention for a big league roster spot, struck out the first three hitters he faced.
Diamondbacks: Lopez had impressed Arizona coaches with his last couple of outings, but he was knocked around this time. It might have hurt his chances of winning a spot in the major league rotation.
''I didn't feel in the third inning like I felt in the first two,'' Lopez said in Spanish after walking two, striking out two and balking in a run. ''I'm still concentrating on reaching that goal of making the team, of falling into the rotation. That's not going to change because of one bad third inning. It won't affect me. I'm still focused.''
ROTATION SPOT FOR RUBBY
Diamondbacks right-hander Rubby De La Rosa will join Josh Collmenter and Jeremy Hellickson in the opening-day rotation, Hale confirmed before the game. De La Rosa threw 84 pitches in 5 2-3 innings during a minor league game Tuesday, allowing two runs and five hits with seven strikeouts.
''Rubby's proven enough to us,'' Hale said. ''He's a difference-maker, being a power guy in our rotation.''
Two spots are still up for grabs.
TRAINER'S ROOM
Arizona pitchers Patrick Corbin and David Hernandez both threw their first bullpen session since having Tommy John surgery last year. ''Just a big relief,'' Hernandez said. ''I'm pretty sure I'll be sore tomorrow. ... It was a long 11, 12 months.'' ... Diamondbacks closer Addison Reed pitched an inning in a ''B'' game as part of his gradual return from shoulder soreness. ''He looked fine. A lot of good sliders. He came out of it healthy, so that's a good sign,'' Hale said, adding that Reed is on track to start the season on the active roster.
HANK'S HOMECOMING
The star of Brewers camp last spring in Phoenix was a stray dog the team took in and named Hank the Ballpark Pup. Hank was a popular attraction at Brewers games and was eventually adopted by team executives, who moved him to Milwaukee.
This Saturday, Hank returns to Maryvale Baseball Park, where he became famous, as part of a fundraiser for the Arizona Humane Society. The canine, named the 2014 Dog of the Year at the CW Network's World Dog Awards in Los Angeles in January, will pose for photos for 30 minutes during the Brewers' game against Cleveland. A voluntary donation is requested for a photo.

Brewers: Jimmy Nelson looks to improve on his most recent performance, when he allowed three runs and five hits in 3 2-3 innings. He makes his fourth spring training start Wednesday against Oakland in Mesa.
Diamondbacks: After an off day, Arizona sends Chase Anderson to the mound against the San Diego Padres in Scottsdale on Thursday. Anderson is leading contender for a spot in the starting rotation.
