SEATTLE (AP) Willie Bloomquist will miss the rest of the season for the Seattle Mariners after undergoing microfracture surgery on his right knee.

Bloomquist underwent the surgery on Friday morning. Manager Lloyd McClendon said Bloomquist will be on crutches for the next six to eight weeks, but should be available for spring training.

Bloomquist was injured running out an RBI groundout on July 23 against the Mets. He was scheduled to have a scope that revealed the extent of the damage in his knee. Seattle was hopeful the damage was minimal and Bloomquist would be back this season.

Bloomquist was hitting .278 in 47 games this season. He also had played six different positions with center field, pitcher and catcher the only spots in the field Bloomquist did not play.
