The Arizona Diamondbacks have sold utility player Rusty Ryal to the Yomiuri Giants of the Japanese League.

Ryal will follow the footsteps of his father, Mark, who spent two seasons with the Chunichi Dragons during his 16-year professional career.

The 27-year-old Ryal hit .261 with three homers and 11 RBIs in 104 games with the Diamondbacks last season. He played 36 games in left field, 24 at first base and eight at third base.

Ryal hit .263 over parts of two seasons in the majors.
