Published Mar. 31, 2010 6:13 a.m. ET

Kyle Davies is back on track after a rough start to spring training.

Davies pitched into the sixth inning, likely securing a spot in Kansas City's rotation, and the Royals beat the Cleveland Indians 7-2 on Tuesday night.

Davies was rocked in his first three outings of the spring, allowing 13 runs and 17 hits over 7 2-3 innings. But he pitched 5 1-3 innings against the Indians, yielding two runs and two hits in his third consecutive solid performance, including a minor league start.

``It's been good the last three,'' Davies said. ``I kind of took a step back and not thought about a thing and pitching, believe in what I see. Make it simple as possible.''

Indians right-hander Mitch Talbot struggled, yielding seven runs, six earned and nine hits in 5 2-3 innings.

Asdrubal Cabrera hit a two-run double in the third for Cleveland.

Brayan Pena hit a two-run homer and Yuniesky Betancourt went 3 for 3 for the Royals. Closer Joakim Soria, who gave up four runs without retiring any of the five batters he faced Monday, pitched a scoreless seventh, striking out two.

NOTES: Royals INF Alberto Callaspo, a switch hitter who has not played in the past five games due to an irritated right side, batted right-handed in the cage and took ground balls. ``There was no pain,'' manager Trey Hillman said. ``I really expect A.C to be on the opening-day roster.'' Callaspo got hurt Friday during batting practice. ... RHP Gil Meche, who has been hampered by shoulder tightness, is scheduled to throw 60 to 70 pitches Thursday in a minor league game. Hillman said Meche is ``annoyed'' he won't be allowed to throw more pitches. The tentative schedule for Meche is to throw in another minor league game next Tuesday and make his regular-season debut April 11 against Boston. ... Royals 2B Chris Getz missed his second straight game with flulike symptoms. ... Hillman said the Royals plan to take 31 players to Texas this weekend for two exhibition games against the Rangers.
