Rockies closer John Axford blows save on June 24, again

Published Jun. 25, 2015 2:46 p.m. ET

June 24 is not a good date for Rockies closer John Axford. The right-hander blew his first save of the season on Wednesday (June 24). It was actually his first blown save since -- you guessed it -- June 24 of last year.

Bad luck for Axford? The Rockies closer looks at the positive side. Per MLB.com, he said, "I've had a lot of good things happen for me personally this year -- a lot of luck.”

Axford was probably referring to the fact that his two-year-old son survived a couple of snake bites from a rattlesnake this year.

On the field, Axford had also had a lot of good things happen to him. He had been a perfect 12-for-12 in save opportunities. The three earned runs he gave up on Wednesday equalled the number of earned runs he had given up in 22 previous appearances this season.
