RHP Wells gets minor league deal with Reds

Right-hander Kip Wells has agreed to a minor league deal with the Cincinnati Reds that includes an invitation to spring training.

The 32-year-old pitcher started last season with Washington, went 0-2 with a 6.49 ERA in 23 relief appearances and was released in July. The Reds signed him to a minor league deal and later promoted him to the majors.

Wells went 2-3 with a 4.66 ERA in seven starts and three relief appearances for the Reds.

Wells also has pitched for the White Sox, Pirates, Rangers, Cardinals, Rockies and Royals. He has a 67-99 career record with a 4.71 ERA.

If added to the 40-man roster, Wells would get a $500,000, one-year contract and the chance to earn additional performance bonuses.
