Reynolds, Indians: 1 year, $6 million

The market for corner infielders is developing quickly, now that free agent Mark Reynolds has reached an agreement with the Cleveland Indians on a new contract.

Reynolds’ deal will be worth $6 million over one year, plus incentives, a major-league source confirmed to FOXSports.com.

Reynolds, 29, is coming off a season in which he posted a .763 OPS with 23 home runs in 135 games for the Baltimore Orioles. Reynolds was much better at first base this year than he was at third, and it appears he will continue playing first in Cleveland. Lonnie Chisenhall, the 2008 first-round draft pick, is slated to start at third for the Indians.

The Indians had shown interest in free agent Kevin Youkilis, who remains a possibility for the Yankees, Mariners and Dodgers. The Yankees have been looking for a third baseman for at least the past week, after it became known that Alex Rodriguez would miss the early stages of the season due to hip surgery.

Adam LaRoche, the top free-agent first baseman, remains unsigned. He’s coming off a standout 2012 season with Washington and could return to the Nationals on a two- or three-year contract.
