Report: Mom sent threatening letters

Published Jun. 20, 2011 1:00 a.m. ET

A New York mother was facing charges Monday for allegedly waging a hate campaign against a Little League official after her son did not make a baseball team.

Janet Chiauzzi began sending threatening letters to the official and his son in May when her boy failed to make the cut for the summer league, Nassau County police said. In the letters, the 44-year-old mom from East Meadow, a Long Island suburb, also made alleged threats against the official's wife and daughter.

Chiauzzi even sent a note to the principal of the school that the official's children attend, saying he was abusing his two kids, who are both under 14, it is alleged. Nassau County Child Protective Services investigated her claim, but determined that it was unfounded.

The irate mom sent six more letters to officials with the East Meadow Little League team defaming the victim and demanding he be fired, police said.

Chiauzzi was arrested late Saturday and arraigned Sunday on two counts of second-degree stalking, two counts of third-degree stalking, two counts of third-degree falsely reporting an incident, two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, and four counts of second-degree aggravated harassment.
