Reds' Latos leaves game with back spasms

Published Jul. 11, 2014 9:14 p.m. ET

CINCINNATI (AP) Cincinnati right-hander Mat Latos left after five innings Friday night - his shortest outing of the season - because of spasms in his lower back, yet another injury to the depleted Reds.

Latos pulled up after running hard to first base trying to beat out a bunt in the second inning. Manager Bryan Price and a trainer came out to check on him in the third and fifth innings. Latos gave up two homers that put the Pittsburgh Pirates up 4-1.

Latos was sidelined until June 24 by torn knee cartilage and a strained pitching forearm.

Right-hander Homer Bailey left in the fifth inning on Thursday with a strained right knee.
