Reds' Harang from scratched start with back pain

Published Jul. 5, 2010 7:51 p.m. ET

Cincinnati Reds right-hander Aaron Harang has been scratched from his start against the New York Mets with lower back pain.

The Reds announced the move about 30 minutes before the first pitch Monday night.

Rookie left-hander Travis Wood was picked to start in Harang's place. Wood allowed two runs on two hits in seven innings in his major league debut last Thursday against the Cubs.

Wood was supposed to start the second game of the series Tuesday night.

Harang has pitched well recently, allowing three or fewer runs in each of his last three starts. There was no word on when he began to feel discomfort in his back.
