The benches emptied after Cleveland pitcher Jensen Lewis threw behind Boston's Adrian Beltre in the eighth inning of Tuesday night's game.

Lewis threw the first pitch of the bottom of the eighth behind Beltre. Home plate umpire Tim Welke got between Beltre and the mound. Welke seemed to have things under control until pitcher Josh Beckett led the Red Sox players out of their dugout, screaming and pointing.

No punches were thrown. Lewis, Indians third-base coach Steve Smith and Beckett were ejected.

Red Sox manager Terry Francona later had words with Smith.

David Ortiz had a pitch sail behind him from reliever Justin Germano in the seventh and stared out briefly. Beckett was on the top step glaring.

Beckett hit Shin-Soo Choo on the right knee in the third.
