Rays rookie Shaffer gets silent treatment after first hit, home run

It's a tradition unlike any other.

When a new call up hits his first home run, it's customary for his teammates to not even acknowledge him when he returns to the dugout.

Tampa Bay Rays rookie Richie Shaffer learned that first hand.

After hitting his first home run, which was also his first Major League hit, his teammates gave him a silent treatment for the ages. The only difference with Shaffer is that he handled it perfectly, as seen in the video above.

Having your first hit be a home run seems like it would be rare, but it's actually become commonplace for the Rays this season:

Let's just hope next time there are actual teammates for Shaffer to high five.
