Rays' Casali leaves with left hamstring strain after HR trot
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) Tampa Bay Rays catcher Curt Casali left Tuesday night's 11-7 loss against the Minnesota Twins after straining his left hamstring running the bases on his home run.
Casali appeared to take an awkward step near first base after hitting his 10th homer - ninth since the All-Star break - in the fifth inning. He slowly finished his trip around the bases with a slight limp before heading toward the clubhouse.
''It was really weird,'' Casali said. ''It's never happened to me. I've never seen it. It stinks right now. On top of a loss, it's not a good day.''
Casali will have an MRI exam Wednesday.
''It just started getting tight on me,'' he said. ''It didn't feel very good going around the bases. Didn't want to injure it more. Took as it as slow as I could. I had to get around the bases somehow.''
Rene Rivera replaced Casali.
