Rangers' Kirkman on DL with lymphoma reccurence

The Texas Rangers put left-hander Michael Kirkman on the 15-day disabled list Sunday after a recurrence of lymphoma around his right triceps. The team says a complete recovery is expected.

Also Sunday, the Rangers put right-hander Alexi Ogando on the 15-day DL with a sore shoulder, recalled right-hander Josh Lindblom from Triple-A Round Rock and purchased the contract of right-hander Kyle McLellan.

The Rangers needed bullpen help after losing 4-3 in 18 innings to the Blue Jays on Saturday. Right-hander Joakim Soria was moved from the 15-day DL to the 60-day DL to make room on the 40-man roster for McLellan.

The Rangers said Kirkman will begin treatment shortly and will be able to participate in baseball activities.

Kirkman was initially diagnosed in January 2012 and continued to pitch while undergoing radiation treatments last year. He said the recurrence was identified 2 millimeters away from the original spot.

Kirkman was 0-2 with an 8.18 ERA in 25 games. His last appearance was Thursday, when he allowed a game-ending three-run homer to Boston's David Ortiz.

Ogando had been scheduled to start Monday's game against Cleveland but felt sore during an abbreviated bullpen session in Toronto on Friday. He was placed on the DL after still feeling sore while playing catch before Sunday's game.

Ogando, 4-2 with a 2.93 ERA in 10 starts, was activated off the DL less on June 5 after missing 17 games with a sore right biceps. He allowed one run and three hits in 5 2-3 innings at Boston that night, but did not get a decision in a 3-2 Rangers win.

Rangers manager Ron Washington said Lindblom, 0-1 with a 7.71 ERA in one start for the Rangers this season, was a candidate to start Monday if he wasn't used against the Blue Jays on Sunday.

McLellan has not pitched for Texas this season. In five years with St. Louis, he went 19-23 with a 3.69 ERA in 261 games.
