Punto back on DL with hamstring problem

Published Aug. 20, 2010 1:00 a.m. ET

The Minnesota Twins have placed infielder Nick Punto on the 15-day disabled list again because of a strained left hamstring.

Punto began the season as the regular third baseman, but this has been the latest frustrating year in his injury-marred career. Punto had just been reinstated from the disabled list on Monday after missing more than two weeks because of the hamstring problem. Then he aggravated the injury on a headfirst slide into second base in the fifth inning Thursday and left the game.

Punto is batting .253 in 233 at-bats.
