Noah Syndergaard's arrival comes with a lot of hype
There has been a lot of press surrounding starting pitcher Noah Syndergaard, as the New York Mets have refused to include their prized prospect in any trade talks. It looks like there are good reasons for holding on to him.
So far this season, Syndergaard had five starts at Triple-A Las Vegas, where he pitched 29.2 innings, and had a stat line of 6.1 H/9, 0.6 HR/9, 2.4 BB/9, 10.3 K/9, and a 1.82 ERA.
Besides the numbers, just looking at Syndergaard’s stature is reason enough to get excited about him. He stands at 6’6” and weighs in at 240 pounds. With a frame like that, it is not a surprise that his fastball is in the high 90s, and he flirts with triple digits.
It’s not just Syndergaard’s fastball that’s impressive. Scouts really like his curveball and change up. While many young prospects get called up with only two pitches at their disposal, he has three. And he also has a slider, which is more like a hard cutter.
With a serious heater, two other legitimate pitches, and a low walk rate, it is easy to see why there is so much hype surrounding this young pitcher, and why the Mets held on to him.
