No healthy player at All-Star Game irritates Marlins

Published Jul. 13, 2015 5:10 a.m. ET

The Miami Marlins haven't already had a tumultuous season as is, but they received another blow over the weekend when All-Star second baseman Dee Gordon injured himself, thus eliminating the team's chance to be represented in the All-Star game.

Gordon's injury follows the wrist injury of slugger Giancarlo Stanton, who was also selected as an All-Star this season.

Both players were voted in as starters.

"Fans should have an opportunity to see an active player from every team, and that's wrong," Marlins president David Samson said.

NL All-Star manager Bruce Bochy selected Colorado Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki to fill Gordon's spot, which particularly irked the Marlins, as they were campaigning for their own shortstop, Adeiny Hechavarria, to be an All-Star even prior to Gordon's injury.
