Nationals' Strasburg headed to 10-day DL

Published Jul. 26, 2017 11:03 p.m. ET

WASHINGTON (AP) One day after expressing hope Stephen Strasburg would make his next start, the Washington Nationals will place the right-hander on the 10-day disabled list.

The official move will take place Thursday and be retroactive to Monday with right-hander Erick Fedde being called up from Triple-A Syracuse. Manager Dusty Baker announced the plan following Wednesday's 8-5 victory over Milwaukee.

''Backed up (Strasburg) just for precaution. He'll miss one turn,'' Baker said.

Strasburg left Sunday's start after two innings with pain in his forearm that doctors later diagnosed as a nerve impingement. Baker did not have an update on Strasburg pregame, but said the Nationals were taking a big picture approach.

Strasburg is 10-3 with a 3.25 ERA in 20 starts.

Fedde, 24, will start Saturday against Colorado. Considered one of Washington's top prospects, Fedde is 1-1 with a 5.57 ERA with Syracuse.
