Mets sign Byrdak to a 2012 contract

The New York Mets have signed relief pitcher Tim Byrdak to a 2012 contract.

A 37-year-old lefty specialist, Byrdak is 2-0 with a 2.89 ERA in 37 1-3 innings, a span of 69 games.

Byrdak was the winner Sunday, allowing one hit in two-thirds of an inning during a 7-5 victory over the Atlanta Braves.

Despite Freddie Freeman's RBI single off Byrdak in the seventh inning, left-handed hitters have a .208 average and 35 strikeouts in 96 at-bats against him this season.

In his last 48 games overall, Byrdak has a 1.44 ERA.
