Mets RHP Bartolo Colon has tendon injury in right foot

The Mets don’t expect Colon to miss his next start because of the injury

Mets pitcher Bartolo Colon is dealing with a tendon injury in his right foot, manager Terry Collins said Tuesday.

Collins noted that Colon suffered the injury while running the bases recently, but said he didn’t think Colon would have to miss his final start of the regular season because of it.

Meanwhile, Colon told the New York Post that he’s “fine.”

During his start on Monday, when he allowed seven runs on eight hits while striking out none in 2.1 innings, Colon was briefly visited by Collins and trainer Ray Ramirez. He quickly shooed them away.

As Colon was struggling Monday, with very little life on his pitches, Ron Darling said on SNY that it seemed Colon wasn’t pushing off well as he delivered each pitch.

Colon is scheduled to start Saturday against the Phillies in Philadelphia, in what is the second-to-last game of the regular season.

With this injury to Colon, each member of the Mets’ Opening Day rotation has been hurt — with three of them (Matt Harvey, Jacob deGrom, and Steven Matz) already out for the season.

The number of injuries the Mets have dealt with this season is way past the point of absurd. And as is the case with Noah Syndergaard, they simply can’t afford to lose Colon.

Hopefully Colon will be able to kick it into gear if/when he makes his first postseason start.

The Mets are one game up on the Giants (tied in the loss column) for the first Wild Card) and 1.5 games up (one game up in the loss column) on the Cardinals.

If the Mets are able to lock in a Wild Card spot prior to Saturday, they’ll almost certainly skip Colon — as they would do with Syndergaard on Sunday if a spot is clinched.

Home field for the Wild Card game would be great, but having Syndergaard lined up for the Wild Card game trumps all else.

Some rest for Colon and/or Syndergaard before potential postseason starts would be ideal, but the Mets need to keep winning and have the Giants and/or Cardinals cooperate. How about it, baseball Gods?
