Mets finally get a hit - and quickly get lost on the bases

NEW YORK (AP) The New York Mets quickly ended their hitless streak - and then almost got lost on the bases.

A day after Giants rookie Chris Heston pitched a no-hitter against the Mets, Curtis Granderson broke the spell with a leadoff drive to deep center field in the first inning Wednesday night against San Francisco's Tim Hudson. The ball sailed beyond the reach of outfielder Angel Pagan near the wall, but Granderson thought the ball was caught.

Granderson rounded first base, put his head down and took a couple of steps back toward the first base dugout. He then realized the ball was in play, headed to second, stopped and settled for a single. Later in the inning, Granderson was thrown out at the plate trying to score from second on a single.
