Mets "could be" bringing Bartolo Colon back next season
Well, duh, the Mets should bring Tolo back
I don’t even understand why the Mets won’t just commit to this right now. Not only is Bartolo Colon a cult hero and loved by almost every single person, but he’s a great pitcher.
And on top of that, he’s the only pitcher that has stayed healthy this season.
43 years old and Colon’s health has been better than teammates half his age. Hey guys, remember that time Colon was going to be sent in the bullpen to make room for Zack Wheeler? Ha, #tbt.
Now, he’s our only original starting pitcher who hasn’t suffered from an injury. He even got hit in the hand with a comebacker earlier this season and still made his next start.
The Mets re-signed Colon to a one-year deal back in December. It would be stupid not to re-sign him for another one year deal for the 2017 season.
Not only do fans want him back, but he has been a source of stability for the team this season — he hasn’t missed a start, he’s pitched on short rest, when Noah Syndergaard’s start had to be pushed back he started in his place, and he’s been healthy!
Especially with Colon saying that next season is probably his last, the Mets need to bring him back. The Mets are acknowledging this, with GM Sandy Alderson saying the following:
“With or without craziness, he could be.”
Could be. That’s Mets talk for “will be,” right?
Terry Collins also sang Colon’s praises (as everyone should):
“He has absolutely saved our rotation by going out there with those quality innings. The wins are great, but it’s the quality innings that he delivers every time he goes out there that not only saves the starting pitchers, it saves the relievers, too.”
Colon would be “delighted to come back” if given the chance, according to ESPN’s Adam Rubin.
Hear that, Mets? He wants to stay on the team. Your only consistent pitcher this season wants to stay with you. Sign him.
After this year with Matt Harvey‘s thoracic outlet syndrome and season ending surgery, with Zack Wheeler’s rehab setbacks, with Steven Matz‘s bone spur and shoulder stiffness, with Jacob deGrom‘s lat tightness and elbow inflammation, and Noah Syndergaard‘s bone spur, you cannot count on this rotation being 100 percent for next season.
Heck, that’s what everyone thought about this season and well, you see (and were just reminded) of how that turned out.
Bringing back Colon just makes sense. It would be stupid not to (wait, did I say that already? Stressing it again).
Can’t wait to see Colon back on the mound in 2017.
