Mets captain Wright wants to be 'part of the fun' in full-time role

The New York Mets have reeled off five consecutive victories and captain David Wright is eager to get in on "the fun."

As Wright continues to ramp up his baseball activities with five consecutive days of workouts in Florida, he said his expectations are to return to New York's lineup in a full-time capacity.

"My goal is to try to come back and be an everyday player," Wright told reporters Tuesday. "My body might tell me I need a blow a little more often than that but I'm planning on coming back and being an everyday player."

Wright has been out since April 14, initially suffering a hamstring injury before he was diagnosed with spinal stenosis and shut down in late May. He took batting practice Tuesday and is targeting a minor-league rehab assignment next week if there are no setbacks during the five-day workout regiment that ends Saturday.

Manager Terry Collins said his plan is to bat Wright in the No. 2 slot for the Mets, who hold a one-game lead atop the NL East.
