Mets captain Wright singles, scores run in first rehab game
New York Mets third baseman David Wright had a single and a walk in four plate appearances for Class A St. Lucie on Monday night in his first game action in nearly four months.
Wright played seven innings while serving as designated hitter and batting third in the lineup. He flew out to center fielder in the first, singled to left-center in the third, drew a walk in the fifth and popped out in the seventh.
Wright scored in the fifth inning, going from first to third on a single before coming home on a groundout. He was erased on a double play in the third and did not slide.
An injured hamstring sidelined Wright after his eighth game of the season on April 14. He suffered a major setback in May when he was diagnosed with spinal stenosis - a narrowing of the spinal column.
The Mets captain underwent five straight days of workouts last week before he was cleared to play in a rehab game. Wright is expected to play five innings in the field on Tuesday.
