Martinez sprains right knee against Indians

Published Apr. 20, 2013 3:07 a.m. ET

Houston left fielder J.D. Martinez has left Friday night's game against the Indians after spraining his right knee while batting in the fourth inning.

Martinez was injured on a check swing. His knee buckled and he fell to the ground in pain.

He remained on the ground for a couple of minutes while Astros trainers attended to him. He was then helped to his feet and hobbled with assistance back to the dugout. He was replaced by Brandon Barnes.

Martinez hit a two-run homer in the second inning, and the Astros led 3-2 when he left the game.
