After the tragic passing of Marlins ace Jose Fernandez, the team created a memorial on the Marlins Park pitcher’s mound.

The team also paid tribute to Fernandez on the video boards inside and outside the stadium.

Fernandez’s number was drawn onto the back of the mound and his hat placed on the rubber. Some of his teammates gathered around the mound in mourning.

The entire Marlins team gathered for a tearful press conference on Fernandez’s passing.

Fernandez was an All-Star as a 20-year-old rookie in 2013 and named National League Rookie of the Year, after jumping straight to the majors from High-A. He missed most of the 2014 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery but returned to form in 2015. He was named to his second All-Star team this season.
