Mariners' Lopez out after being hit in hand

Published Sep. 28, 2010 11:11 p.m. ET

Seattle Mariners third baseman Jose Lopez is out of the game at Texas after a hard-hit grounder ricocheted off his throwing hand.

Lopez immediately started shaking his right hand and even looked down at his fingers while retrieving the ball without throwing it in the sixth inning Tuesday night. He was grimacing in pain and started walking toward the dugout. It appeared that one of Lopez's fingernails was split and blood was coming out of it.

Nelson Cruz was credited with an infield single. Matt Tuiasosopo replaced Lopez at third base.
