Mariners cut ties with Rickie Weeks
The Rickie Weeks era is officially over in Seattle.
On Sunday, the Mariners released the veteran infielder/outfielder, as he never quite put anything together in his brief stint with the M's that warranted a long-term spot on the roster.
The decision comes a week after the club designated him for assignment, and was initially reported via MLB.com's transactions page.
Despite a strong showing during spring training, Weeks hit just .167/.263/.250 with 14 hits (and three extra-base hits) in 84 official at-bats (across 37 games).
It's hard to imagine him not catching on with another club in a utility role, due to his track record and the fact that he's still only 32 years old.
The M's had signed him to a one-year, $2 million contract prior to this season.
