Lincecum has cortisone shots for degenerative hip condition

Published Jul. 20, 2015 9:08 p.m. ET

SAN DIEGO (AP) San Francisco Giants manager Bruce Bochy says right-hander Tim Lincecum has received cortisone shots in both hips to treat a degenerative condition.

Bochy says the affliction is common in athletes, and Lincecum will rest for four or five days. It is not considered a career-threatening injury.

Lincecum (7-4, 4.13 ERA) has been on the disabled list since June 28 with a bruised right forearm. He flew to Tennessee on Sunday and had an MRI exam Monday. He then rejoined the club in San Diego.
