Josh Donaldson makes great catch during perfect game attempt

Josh Donaldson is rated as one of the best defensive third basemen in baseball. With catches like this one, it’s easy to see why.

Donaldson went into the stands to take away an at-bat from David DeJesus at the start of the 8th inning in Wednesday’s Blue Jays-Rays game, aiding Marco Estrada’s perfect game effort.

Estrada lost the perfect game and no-hitter when Logan Forsythe reached via infield single on the next at-bat, and he was lifted with two outs in the ninth after allowing a double. He ended up with a no decision, which was a pretty crappy outcome given how well he pitched, but at least his team won 1-0 in 12 innings. Estrada also took a no-hitter into the eighth inning in his previous outing, so there’s little doubt about how much he is dominating.

But how about that catch by Donaldson? He went about 2-3 rows into the stands to make it, putting Derek Jeter to shame. That was probably the best catch this season since the one by Nolan Arenado.
