LAS VEGAS (AP) Pitchers Jim Henderson and Logan Verrett made the New York Mets' opening-day roster along with backup catcher Kevin Plawecki.

Mets optioned pitchers Sean Gilmartin, Erik Goeddel and infielder Matt Reynolds to Las Vegas on Friday and reassigned pitcher Zack Thornton and catcher Johnny Monell to the Triple-A farm team. Pitchers Josh Edgin and Zack Wheeler, both recovering from Tommy John surger, have been placed on the 15-day disabled list.

New York opens the regular season at Kansas City on Sunday night in a rematch of last year's World Series, won by the Royals in five games.

Henderson has a 1.69 ERA in 10? innings during spring training. He allowed eight hits, three runs, while striking out 13 in 12 games. A 33-year-old right-hander, Henderson went 8-9 with a 3.44 ERA in 111 relief appearances with Milwaukee from 2012-14.

He pitched last year at Class A Brevard County, Double-A Biloxi and Triple-A Colorado Springs.

''I'm happy with what I accomplished this spring,'' Henderson said. ''I told myself coming in from the offseason, I would be playing somewhere, whether it would be independent ball or here. I told myself to keep playing, keep playing.''

''I'm happy with the result and get ready for Kansas City and the upcoming season,'' Plawecki said. ''I'm just excited and get the season going.''

Verrett has a 1.23 ERA 14? innings during the exhibition season, allowing two earned runs, while striking out six.

''I'm very excited to make the roster,'' Verrett said. ''I want to help the team, maybe making a spot start. I'm going to do what they asked of me. My focus is to win some games.''

Plawecki was hitting .244 (11 for 45) in spring training with three doubles and four RBIs.

''I'm happy with the result and get ready for Kansas City and the upcoming season,'' Plawecki said.
