Jeter did it his way: Commercial salutes No. 2 as career nears end

Derek Jeter's 20-year career is nearing his final at-bat.

With just 11 games left and the New York Yankees six games out of the AL's second wild-card spot, the playoffs are unlikely — especially having to pass three teams to get there.

Jeter, who in February announced he would retire at the end of the season, has been showered with gifts and love during his Farewell Tour across the country as the Yankees visited opposing ballpark after opposing ballpark.

But Thursday marks the beginning of Jeter's final homestand at Yankee Stadium.

The Pinstripes host the Toronto Blue Jays for four games followed by a four-game set with the AL East champion Baltimore Orioles Monday through Thursday.

Jeter's final home game will be Thursday, Sept. 25, at 7:05 p.m. ET.

Expect an emotional night in the Bronx as the franchise leader in hits, singles, doubles, stolen bases and games played dons the famous pinstripes one last time — in a regular-season game — in front of the home crowd.

Then it's off to Boston for the final series — Saturday's game is on FOX at 1 p.m. ET — as Jeter closes the door on an eventual Hall of Fame career.

Marking the start of his final homestand, Gatorade busted out a New York/Frank Sinatra "My Way" salute to The Captain. The 90-second ad breaks online Thursday, and will air on TV for the first time Saturday on FOX and the YES Network.
