Indians expect Cabrera, Choo back on Friday

Published Jul. 20, 2010 12:57 a.m. ET

The Cleveland Indians expect a big boost later this week with the return from injuries of shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera and right fielder Shin-Soo Choo.

Manager Manny Acta said Monday before the game at Minnesota the plan is for both Choo and Cabrera to return to the team for Friday's game against Tampa Bay. Choo was to join Cabrera on Monday on an injury rehab assignment with Double-A Akron.

Choo has been out since July 2 with a strained right thumb. Cabrera has been out since May 18 after breaking his left forearm.

Rookie Jason Donald has been playing shortstop in Cabrera's place. Donald could move to second base, where Jayson Nix has been playing lately. The Indians want Donald to play regularly, whether in the majors or minors.
