Hurdle happy for former Pirates pitcher

Updated Mar. 5, 2020 1:30 a.m. ET

Just because Wandy Rodriguez is no longer pitching in a Pittsburgh uniform, doesn't mean that Pirates manager Clint Hurdle isn't rooting for him.

After spending parts of the past three seasons together, Wandy Rodriguez and the Pittsburgh Pirates parted ways prior to the 2015 season.

The left-hander is now in Texas -- playing for former Pirates bench coach Jeff Banister -- and is off to a strong start, much to the enjoyment of Hurdle.

"I couldn't be happier, Wandy was very involved here," Hurdle told Pirates.com. "He tried, and gave it everything he had, and the injuries got in the way."

Rodriguez has made four starts for the Rangers this season and is 1-1 with a 2.70 ERA.
