Former Yankee Hideki Matsui is playing in a rec league in NYC
Hideki Matsui seems to be enjoying his life after professional baseball.
He has a good job as special advisor to the GM, makes frequent trips back his home in Japan...and plays in a rec-league on the weekends.
Yes, you read that right. The former New York Yankees great is currently the pitcher and four-hole hitter (a right-handed one at that) for the rightfully named Team Matsui.
His teammates are no longer legends like Derek Jeter and Mariano Rivera, instead playing with bankers, accountants and engineers, but he's still having a blast playing for the love of the game. Here's what one of his teammates told the New York Times:
“The reason he’s here, I think, is a love of baseball,” said Kamal Ramani, a physician during the week and a reserve and coach for Team Matsui on weekends. “I know it sounds crazy, but it’s as simple as that. He loves the game.”
That's pretty awesome.
The next time you think you have a good rec-league team, just remember you don't have a former World Series MVP hitting cleanup.
