Flashback: Rangers' Ryan, White Sox's Ventura brawl

Aug. 4, 1993 was the date of one of the more infamous moments in the history of Major League Baseball.

It was the day the Texas Rangers and Chicago White Sox faced off and engaged in a bit of a "bean ball" war — with White Sox third baseman Robin Ventura taking the worst of it.

As has been immortalized over the years in various formats, the fearless Nolan Ryan — then 46 years old in the last of his 27 MLB seasons (27 seasons?!?!) —drilled Ventura — who had turned 26 about three weeks earlier — with a fastball. Ventura, miffed, threw down his bat and helmet and charged toward the mound ready for a fight. The rest, so they say, is history:

Since this is the 22nd anniversary of the on-field fracas, it seemed only appropriate to revisit it — as it stands as one of the more eventful brawls in league history.
