Dodgers recall reliever Garcia from minors, activate Greinke
NEW YORK (AP) The Los Angeles Dodgers recalled reliever Yimi Garcia from Triple-A Oklahoma City on Sunday, giving them a fresh arm in the bullpen.
The team also activated All-Star ace Zack Greinke from the paternity list to start against the New York Mets. Greinke entered with a scoreless streak of 43 2-3 innings, longest in the majors since Orel Hershiser set the major league record of 59 for the Dodgers in 1988. But he gave up a run in the third at Citi Field.
Greinke originally was scheduled to pitch Friday, but he went to Los Angeles to be with his wife, Emily, on Thursday night for the birth of their first child, Bode Nicholas. The right-hander, who was leading the majors with a 1.30 ERA, rejoined the team this weekend.
Garcia, back for his second stint with the Dodgers this season, leads the team with 40 appearances - including one start. The right-hander was 3-2 with a 4.10 ERA and one save. He had 53 strikeouts in 37 1-3 innings.
Garcia last pitched Thursday for Oklahoma City.
Los Angeles had two open roster spots after optioning pitchers Josh Ravin and Chin-hui Tsao to Oklahoma City following Saturday night's 15-2 loss to the Mets.
