Dodgers' Puig breaks out following extra hitting work

Maybe it was because of the extra work that he’s been putting in that Dodgers right fielder Yasiel Puig finally broke out on Thursday with a two-hit, four-RBI game. Puig’s performance was overshadowed by Zack Greinke’s continued excellence on the mound, and perhaps that’s better for Puig.
The Orange County Register noted that Puig came out early to take an extra hour of batting practice before Thursday’s game. Puig seemed peeved at the perception that he might not be working hard. Per the Register:
“I come early all the time to get some work in hoping to turn things around and keep improving...A lot of time, I’m hitting in the cage, working Val (assistant hitting coach John Valentin) and Mac so you think I’m not here and not working.”
Mac is Dodgers hitting coach Mark McGwire. He said that it was “very possible” that Puig had altered his swing in light of his recent hamstring injury.
