MINNEAPOLIS (AP) The Los Angeles Dodgers selected the contract of right-hander Red Patterson from Triple-A Albuquerque so he could start the second game of a doubleheader against the Minnesota Twins.
Patterson went 1-1 with a 4.15 ERA in four starts this season with the Isotopes. He was scheduled to make his major league debut against the Twins on Thursday night.
The 26-year-old Patterson was a non-roster invite to big league spring training and was added to the 40-man roster on Thursday. The Dodgers designated outfielder Nick Buss for assignment to make room for Patterson.
The Twins recalled left-hander Kris Johnson from Triple-A Rochester to make the start for them. The 29-year-old Johnson had a 2.86 ERA with 20 strikeouts in 22 innings.
