Didi Gregorius takes honest approach to his struggles at the plate
Things haven't been going as planned for the New York Yankees and their shortstop Didi Gregorius.
Coming into the season, the Yanks traded for Gregorius as Derek Jeter's heir apparent. Thus far, it hasn't been working out at the plate for the former Arizona Diamondback.
“I didn’t come here to fail,” Gregorius told reporters on Wednesday. “You always want to succeed.”
On the season, Gregorius is slashing .214/.276/.250. He was asked if he thought he was breaking out of his slump, to which he answered with honesty:
“I don’t feel it, but who knows?” Gregorius said. “You never know. Maybe I start hitting all of a sudden. I just keep working hard in the cage. That’s how it all starts.”
The Yankees sure hope he can turn it around, or Brian Cashman will be busy at the trade deadline.
